04月15日: VN-Index records biggest decline this year (VN-Index -4.70%)
- The VN-Index opened lower. Asian stocks in general were risk-off due to concerns over the Middle East.
- Sellers prevailed throughout today. Toward the end of trading, the market turned sharply bearish and eventually recorded its largest decline.
- The VND’s falling exchange rate against the USD may have also contributed to concerns about currency intervention by the central bank and, ultimately, higher market interest rates.
- Sectors with particularly large declines were Financial services, Chemicals, Construction & Materials, Real estate, and Oil & gas. On the other hand, Healthcare sector saw the smallest decline.
- The market breadth included 40 increasing, 30 decreasing, and 475 unchanged stocks.
- Liquidity increased by 39% to VND 33 trillion.
Several stocks in VN-30 hit bottom (VN-30 -4.42%)
- The basket recorded all but 1 stock fell.
- The bottom price was recorded by MSN (-6.95%), BID (-6.93%), SSI (-6.92%), BCM (-6.89%), GVR (-6.88%), and VRE (-6.83%).
- SHB (+0.44%) was the only one to increase.
Sectors and stocks daily highlights
- SHB (+0.44%) was temporarily ceiling price after Do Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, registered a major purchase of the company’s shares; he plans to purchase approximately 120 million shares between April 19 and May 17.
- OCB (-5.39%) held its 2024 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today. In addition to increasing its charter capital to VND 7 trillion, a 20% dividend plan for existing shareholders was approved.
- Foreign investors were net sold by VND 1.27 trillion, with MWG (-4.04%) being the most net bought. On the other hand, VHM (-4.72%) and CTG (-6.82%) were net sold.
