04月19日：VN-Index continues to fall on deteriorating investor sentiment (VN-Index -1.52%)

• Deteriorating global investor sentiment, driven by tensions in the Middle East, has spilled over to the Vietnamese stock market, causing the VN-Index to open sharply lower.
• In response to the record depreciation of the VND against USD, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) said today that it is ready to intervene in the currency market. Selling pressure from investors, who were concerned about the rising VND interest rate, also weighed on the overall market.
• However, the market as a whole does not appear to be all doom and gloom, as there were some attempts to rally in the afternoon.
• All sectors declined. Among them, the Construction & Materials, Financial Services, and Real Estate sectors were the most sensitive, falling more than 3%.
• The market breadth included 90 increasing, 405 decreasing, and 54 unchanged stocks.
• Liquidity increased by 24% to VND 23.7 trillion.

VN-30 Index also continued to fall (VN-30 -1.38%)

• The basket included 2 gaining, 25 losing, and 3 unchanged stocks.
• Only BID (+0.52%) and SHB (+0.45%) rose.
• VIC (-5.33%) and BCM (-4.97%) were the most significant decliners.

Sectors and stocks daily highlights

• Suggestions of foreign exchange intervention by SBV alerted investors to higher VND interest rates, causing banking brokerage stocks such as BSI (-6.92%), CTS (-6.94%), and AGR (-6.87%) to be ceiling price.
• SSI (-3.49%) announced its Q1 results. Consolidated sales reached VND2.022 trillion (+36% YoY) and pretax profit reached VND 945 billion (+53% YoY).
• Foreign investors turned net bought by VND680 billion, including VNM (0.00%), DIG (-4.86%), VND (-2.33%), and HPG (-0.71%). On the other hand, the most notable net sold stock was MWG (-2.43%).
